Yong Kyu Yoon (Post Doc)

 

Biographical Sketch

Yong-Kyu Yoon received the B.S. and the M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the Seoul National University, Korea. He received his MSEE degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999 and 2004, respectively. He is currently researching as a post-doctoral fellow at the Microelectronics Research Center in Georgia Institute of Technology. He is interested in the research of developing 3-D MEMS technology; bio/microfluidic systems for the lab-on-a-chip; nanofabrication and its bio/chemical applications; RF passive components and millimeter-wave antennas; microsensors and actuators; electronic and MEMS packaging; and ferroelectric material study and its RF/optical applications.

1.Thermal micro/nano poration system for transdermal drug delivery  à

 

Designed and fabricated a resistive microheater/sensor array (wired scheme) and implemented a wireless induction heating system (wireless scheme) for human skin ablation                                                                                  

 

2. Gas flow system using thermal transpiration  à

 

Designed and fabricated a gas flow system with a nano nozzle and a nano channel for gas separation and gas pumping using thermal transpiration or diffusion                 

 

3. Nano fiber/texture formation for artificial tissue engineering  à

 

Nano-scale texture ordering using nano lithography and electrospinning.

4. Millimeter-wave antenna for system-on-chip (SOC) applications (May 2004 – Oct. 2005)  à

 

Design and fabricated air-extruded millimeter-wave monopole, Yagi-Uda, Patch antennas                                                                                                     

 

5. Ferroelectric tunable capacitors (Jan. 2002 – Dec. 2005)

-Performed design, fabrication, and characterization of a BST based tunable capacitor for RF applications              

-Implemented a reduced intermodulation distortion (IMD) capacitor structure                                                                                                           

 

6. 3-D polymer structure fabrication technique development (Sep. 2001~Aug. 2003)

- Developed a high aspect ratio polymer structure for high-Q 3-D RF components.

- Developed an inclined polymeric structure for microfluidic filter and mixer application.

- Developed a 3-D polymeric microvasculature structure for cell culturing or microfluidic applications.

 

7. RF inductors (Sep. 2000 ~ June 2002)

-Designed and fabricated a high Q-factor integrated RF inductor using 3D MEMS technology for CMOS RFIC

-Developed an “epoxy-core conductor” for a high aspect ratio RF MEMS structure

 

8. Platinum resistive heater/sensor (Aug. 1999 ~ Dec. 2000)

- Designed and fabricated a platinum resistive heater/sensor microarray for microfluidic cooling assessment
